Turn a block count into a supplier order.
Separate the estimated blocks from whole-pallet quantities, leftover units and material costs.
There is no single pallet quantity to use for every concrete block. Ask your supplier for the number of the exact product on a pallet, whether split pallets are sold and whether deposits or delivery fees apply. The calculator’s 90-block starting value is editable and is not a product specification.
How Many Cinder Blocks Are in a Pallet? (Quick Chart)
The standard number of concrete blocks on a pallet depends directly on block thickness and manufacturer weight limits (typically kept between 2,500 and 3,200 lbs for freight handling).
| Block Size (Nominal) | Blocks per Pallet | Approx. Weight per Block | Total Pallet Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 × 8 × 16 in (Standard CMU) | 72 to 90 blocks (commonly 90) | 34 – 38 lbs | 2,700 – 3,200 lbs |
| 6 × 8 × 16 in | 108 to 120 blocks | 26 – 30 lbs | 2,800 – 3,300 lbs |
| 4 × 8 × 16 in (Half-width) | 144 to 180 blocks | 18 – 22 lbs | 2,600 – 3,200 lbs |
| 12 × 8 × 16 in (Foundation) | 48 to 60 blocks | 50 – 55 lbs | 2,600 – 3,300 lbs |
Rule of thumb: For standard 8×8×16 cinder blocks, most suppliers in the United States ship 90 blocks per pallet (configured as 6 courses of 15 blocks) or 72 blocks per pallet (6 courses of 12 blocks).
Round pallets after estimating blocks
First estimate the blocks for the wall, including your chosen waste allowance. Then divide that rounded count by the supplier’s blocks per pallet and round up to the next whole pallet.
Pallets = round up (estimated blocks ÷ blocks per pallet)
For an estimate of 198 blocks and a supplier quantity of 90, 198 ÷ 90 = 2.2. Three full pallets contain 270 blocks. That is 72 more units than the 198-block estimate; it is not an additional waste percentage.
Compare the same unit price
| Purchase basis | Units | Block material cost |
|---|---|---|
| Estimated blocks only | 198 | $366.30 |
| Three full pallets | 270 | $499.50 |
| Difference | 72 | $133.20 |
These are calculations using entered prices, not live quotes. If the supplier offers a pallet discount, compare its actual pallet quote separately; the tool applies the entered per-block price to both quantities.
What to ask for in the quote
- The exact block size, strength, finish and any specialty unit schedule.
- Units per pallet and availability of individual blocks or split pallets.
- Tax, delivery, unloading access, pallet deposits and return conditions.
- Separate mortar, grout, reinforcement and other design requirements.
A block material total excludes those items and labor. It is not the installed cost of a wall. Larger thicknesses can share the same face count while having different prices and handling requirements.
Keep a reproducible estimate
After adjusting the wall, openings, allowance, price and pallet size, download the CSV or print the estimate. Copy estimate link lets the supplier or mason see the same inputs. Check the link before sharing because its URL contains those inputs. Revisit the block-size guide if the proposed product differs from the module used in your estimate.
